About the Program
Being the church in the twenty-first century calls us to new challenges and demands bold action. During Living the Essentials Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow, we’ll envision a future church ready to meet the opportunities and challenges of our world.
Together, we’ll gain wisdom, share thoughts, voice concerns, and generate solutions. When we leave, we’ll know more about:
- Yesterday (The Past): The Rev. Dr. Craig Atwood will take us through the history of Moravian congregations from the Ancient Unity & Zinzendorf’s time through the present and the implications of that history for our future;
- Today (The Present): The Rev. David Guthrie, President of the Provincial Elders Conference will share information about our current Southern Province congregations and look at some important trends in faith and religion in America;
- Tomorrow (The Future): You’ll hear about new or different forms of church for a changing world and have the opportunity to offer your own ideas and dreams for the future Moravian Church as we prepare for the 2018 Southern Province Synod.
Together, we’ll explore how spiritual growth, community, and mission characterize the life, witness, and ministry of the Moravian Church yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Participants are asked to prepare for this event by reviewing an online participant guide.
God creates; God redeems; God blesses us. And we respond in faith, in love, and in hope. Practicing these essentials brings us closer to living as God calls us to live and opens the way for God’s spirit to renew us and give us new energy for ministry. May this conference engage us and inspire us as we explore possibilities for a vibrant future!
